The Learning Community at Tanglin is led by our experienced CPD Team, with leaders from across the Infant, Junior, and Senior Schools as well as Business Support.
In 2017 the school received the CPD Excellence Mark from Creative Education recognizing - The holistic vision and values which are endemic throughout the school, the position of a dedicated CPD team to drive forward the vision, the sense of fellowship between staff & the commitment of the Leadership Team to Training and Development
Deputy Head (Academic)
Jo gained her BA (Hons) in Graphic Design (Illustration) from The University of Humberside in 1993, before working freelance in the US, London and Kenya. After having children, she embarked on a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of St Mark & St John before teaching in the UK. In 2005, Jo moved with her family to take up a middle leadership position in Beijing, before moving to Jakarta as Assistant Head, finally moving here to Tanglin Trust School in 2014 as Deputy Headteacher. Since joining Tanglin she has acquired a Masters in Educational Leadership and Management and the National Professional Qualification for Headship. In her spare time, when not studying, Jo still loves to create artwork, but also enjoys exercise and travel with her husband and adult children, particularly where it involves diving.
Director of Learning
John joined Tanglin in 1998 and held various leadership positions in the school before being appointed Director of Learning in 2011. He graduated from Oxford University with a BA in Physics and has a PGCE from Bristol University. Whilst at Tanglin, John has completed a Masters in Education through distance learning with the University of Bath and the National Professional Qualification for Headship. Prior to Tanglin, John has worked in four different schools in the UK and Bermuda. He has a passion for nature and aims to spend as much time as possible outside when away from school.
Director of Co-Curriculum
Michael joined Tanglin in January 2020. This is his first position in an international school having worked in the UK before moving to Singapore. He graduated from the University of Oxford with a Music degree and has a secondary PGCE, he is currently working on a Masters of Business Administration. He enjoys music of all genres, walks with his young family and cooking.
Assistant Head (Head of Upper School)
Mike joined Tanglin in 2004 after working as an English teacher for five years just outside Bristol. He became Head of English in 2007 and then Assistant Head in 2014. He has an English Literature degree from Cardiff University and is currently working on a Masters in Education. He enjoys writing when he gets the chance and also loves cooking, music (singing, playing guitar and ukulele) and spending time with family.
Deputy Headteacher (Academic)
Becky graduated from the University of the West of England with a BA(hons) in French, Spanish and European Studies before continuing her studies in Liverpool, completing her PGCE with a specialism in Primary Foreign Languages. Most recently, Becky completed her Masters in Education at the University of Bath and the International Leadership and Management Programme. Prior to joining Tanglin in 2016, Becky worked in the UK, Spain and South Korea. Outside of school, Becky enjoys taking walks with her husband and their young children, reading books and following her local football team, Bristol City.
Director of Human Resources
Sophie started her career in Market Research in London before moving to Hong Kong in 1998. While in Hong Kong, she moved into the Executive Search industry where she stayed for 13 years, living and working in London, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Singapore. Sophie joined Tanglin as Director of Human Resources in 2013. Sophie holds an MA in Social and Political Sciences from the University of Cambridge, an MSc in Occupational Psychology from University of London, a Graduate Diploma in Psychology from Thames Valley University and is a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). In her free time, Sophie enjoys hiking and cycling, travelling to new places and spending time with friends and family.
